I have personally had to say "goodbye" to six pets in my life. Unfortunately, it never gets any easier. As an adult, I have chosen to have my pets cremated so I could keep them close.  However, I never knew what to do with their ashes.  I kept them in a pretty hat box.  They are not displayed; they are just kept.  I wanted to do something more with them.  I wanted to do something special to honor them, something that would reflect their beauty and significance in my life.

Over the past few years, I started thinking more and more about the possibility of creating fused glass jewelry that contains a small portion of ash from my beloved pets as a way to keep them close in a beautiful way.  They deserve more than a hat box as their final resting place.  I gave it some more thought and came up with endless possibilities - different colors of glass to match their colors, varied shapes or styles from pendants to cuff links, the addition of special charms, etc. I began daydreaming about how special each piece could be.  As these ideas continued to flow, Rainbow Bridge Designs was born.

Design Process

Our jewelry is custom made just for you.  We create each piece one at a time and the same artist works on it through the entire process.  Some designs use sheets of art glass which are hand cut and ground to shape while others use very small pieces of glass (called frit) that are used to fill a mold. Your pet's ash is carefully measured and mixed with the colored glass for your special design.  Each piece is then kiln-fired for approximately 12 hours and ground by hand to achieve the desired shape.

Once the individual piece of jewelry is complete, we add a black satin cord and any desired add-ons, such as beads or charms.
